GP Support Team
Physician Associate
A Physician Associate works alongside GPs and Practice Nurses to deliver care to our patients whilst building up knowledge and experience of General Practice. Physician Associates are very much part of general practice and hospital medicine introduced in the UK in 2003. They are supervised by and complement the role of a General Practitioner, rather than a substitute. Our Practice Physician Associate provides care from initial history taking and clinical assessment through to diagnosis, treatment and evaluation of care, as well as support the management of chronic diseases.
Duties covered will include:
- telephone triage
- face to face patient reviews
- chronic disease management clinics
A Physician Associate can request and interpret diagnostic studies such as Ultrasound and blood tests, but currently cannot prescribe medications or request imaging studies with ionising radiation, this may change in time.
